“Mint” to Be

Once upon a time, I posted a picture of my dining room in my house because I was so thankful to {finally} have all of my surfaced cleaned off. Then, a sweet lady commented how she wished her house looked like that. She didn’t have hardly anything on the wall. What she didn’t know was that I really don’t have anything on the wall either!

I’m pretty picky about what I want to hang on my walls. I’m not sure why. It’s so easy to change things out. The Nester suggests moving stuff around until you find the right place for it and accepting the imperfection. I’m still a work in progress though. That’s probably why I’ve read the book twice…and probably will again.

Anyhow…I was recently introduced to this cool website called Minted.com. I’ve heard of Minted before because of their amazing invitations for parties and weddings. They have everything from thank you cards, to save the dates, to the invitations themselves. What I didn’t know was that they had art that looks amazing, and they will even frame it for you. Can it get better than that?!?!

I was shopping around to see what would look best in my house. I would love to have an affordable piece of art already framed and delivered to my house.

The first thing that popped out to me was this cool foil print of my wonderful state of Alabama. I thought the frame {that I got to pick out} was unique and went with my obsession with distressed white pieces.

I’m a sucker for typography. It’s always nice to have some inspirational quotes or phrases that have sentimental meaning to you. This one would be perfect for my office. You can even customize it to match your color scheme in your house.

And then there was the more traditional art that I’m really drawn to! I can’t pick just one place I could use these pieces in my house. I would love to add some art to my walls or tucked into my built-in bookcases.

There are so many styles on the Minted.com website. It’s definitely worth checking out! I hope to getting at least on of these pieces soon! If I do, I’ll be sure to share it with you! If you’re looking to make a small investment to add a little more home to your house, this looks like a great place to start.

Hippity-Hop…Easter’s On Its Way!

Easter is right around the corner, and I have been busy coming up with some ideas to decorate the house in hopes of the spring weather I wish for every freezing day.

Easter Basket Pinterest

Since the Easter bunny only gets paid once a month, he has to think ahead of time when planning a certain little boy’s Easter basket. For those of you looking for some ideas for a toddler and an 8 month old, I’m going to share Landry’s basket from last year along with what the Easter bunny is thinking for this upcoming year.

IMG_1855

For the eight month old, the items were kept fairly simple. The main focus was food and bath time. In this basket, you could find the following things:

  • Bath toys
  • Vtech Bath Duck
  • Gerber Puff and Lil’ Crunchies snacks
  • “Happy Easter, Little Critter”
  • “The Berenstain Bears and the Real Easter Eggs”
  • Sock Easter Monkey
  • New socks for a growing baby

Oh, how things have changed in a year!

For this year though, the Easter bunny is still thinking about spring and all of the fun water activities and sunshine this cutey of a little boy will be soaking up.

OB-Easter Basket Ideas

Smocked swim trunks

  1. Wayfarer sunglasses {fake, of course}
  2. Foam letters for the bathtub…we love to stick things to the side of the tub
  3. Mr. Bubbles Bubble Bath….brings back memories of having bubble baths at my Maw Maw’s
  4. Melissa and Dough Cookie Dough play set
  5. Floaties for the pool
  6. Pool ring
  7. Welch’s Fruit Snacks….Landry loves these
  8. Brica Bath Toy Scoop

I didn’t include it, but the Easter bunny might just throw in some color tablets for the bath water. Might as well have a little fun in the tub while we wait for warmer weather!

Hopefully this will give you some ideas for the 8 to 18 month old kiddos in your life!

A Check-Check Here & A Check-Check There

Buffalo checks. It’s the “theme” so to speak.

I finally found the perfect inspiration photo of what I had already been planning before I discovered it.

You see, I found this awesomely priced duvet cover from Ikea. Can you say 49.99?

ikea bedding

Then, I was making plans on how to buy an extra duvet cover to turn them into matching curtains. And then…I found this picture.

My heart skipped a beat when the blogger of Dixie Delight said that she bought the fabric from Ikea. Say what??? No need to cut up a duvet cover to get the look I wanted? I could just buy the fabric. Ah-MAZ-ING!

To make this bedroom a total hit, I’ve got to make a lot of changes, but if I start now maybe I can get it done in a couple of years. Sad, right? Teacher= P.O.O.R.

Here’s the list…

  • Headboard
  • Light fixture
  • Duvet and Duvet Cover from Ikea
  • White quilt
  • PB Sheets {like those above}….might just settle for plain white ones
  • Curtain fabric from Ikea
  • Lamps
  • Possibly switch nightstands from master bedroom to guest bedroom
  • Artwork on walls {might use Uncle Judd’s contributions}
  • Curtain rods
  • Dresser {possibly}
  • Desk set-up
  • Euro pillows and shams
  • Boyish, natural accessories
  • And paint! {shhh….don’t tell Colby! He’ll kill me}

Don’t worry about the toys….I’m sure we will be making plenty of room for them in his closet.

There you have it, folks! A big boy room in the making!

Big Boy in the Making

IMG_8287

Y’all have no idea how fast Landry is growing up! Every day it’s a new word or a new “trick”. It’s so crazy how fast he picks up on things that we do. He learns it and runs with it. We are having to really mind our p’s and q’s around here. We want to be a good example for him after all.

IMG_8261

Lately, I’ve been thinking about our guest bedroom. I’m sick of looking at all of the random stuff that has piled up in there. It’s really pathetic what the mess has turned in to. Burlap, paper lanterns, random paperwork, books…the list goes on.

One day, this room will be Landry’s big boy room. Don’t get any ideas though. Landry will be comfortable in his nursery for a few more years. In the mean time, I would like to start moving in the right direction, so I won’t be creating a nursery and a big boy room at the same time. Plus, I want to have a room that is comfortable for guests if some of our family or friends come from out of town and needs a place to stay.

I don’t think a pile of junk on the bed is exactly comfortable.

I’ve been looking for some inspiration rooms, and so far I’ve found that I’m fond of buffalo checks for his future space, and I would love for it to be a neutral type space.

Here is a look at what I’ve found so far…

Of course….those pictures are not my absolute favorites. I’ll share that tomorrow.

I want to be back to blogging. I am NEEDING this outlet to share about my family, my projects, my home, my struggles, and my life.

It’s real life here, folks. Don’t ever get the idea that it’s all sunshine and rainbows. That would be a false perception.

Making My Ideas Reality Part Two

I’ve been keeping my eye on some other items I would love to incorporate into our bedroom.

side table

One on each side of the bed.

lamp

I’m liking the glass base, but I’m not sure on the lamp shade. I think I actually like the sea grass lamp shade.

shade

I would also like this chair to add to the room {depending on how much room is left with all of the new additions}.

chair

Last but not least, I would need new window treatments, which would start with 2” faux white wood blinds. Then, it would lean towards more something of this kind…

drapes

It’s a pleated cotton twill. It’s a very safe choice, but I just can’t seem to commit to a print, although that is what I would prefer.

I hope one day {soon} I can make this happen.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Making My Ideas Reality

Since and, well, actually before Colby and I got married, I have been thinking about the ways I wanted to change our bedroom. It’s boring. It’s ugly. It needs desperate help.

I’ve dealt with it because I have not had enough of a pay check to purchase the items I have been wanting for the bedroom.

This weekend, though, Colby and I might be taking a step in the right direction towards the bedroom I dream of. We’re in the market for a mattress.

You see…Colby likes a firm mattress, and I adore a nice, luscious  soft mattress. Clearly that poses a problem. Ultimately, we decided we would get a Sleep Number mattress.

Before, we had thought we wanted the i8.

i8

Money is still holding us back though. For a king size mattress, it would cost us $2,949 ON SALE!

We have now decided to lean towards the p5!

p5

We’re going to the Sleep Number store on Saturday {if everything goes as planned}.  I wanted to test it out one more time before we make the ultimate decision.

If we get a new KING SIZE BED, we have upgraded from our tiny full size bed. This means we need a new headboard. Pottery Barn, here I come!

I have chosen this lovely number to grace us with its presence. Meet Riley!

headboard

With this new upgrade, I’m definitely going to need some new linens, too. While I haven’t gotten this approved yet by my other half {particularly the price}, I’m still loving it.

While I am naturally drawn to green, the current quilt is basically the same green, and I am planning on transferring it to the guest bedroom. I feel as if I should choose a different color, and I am leaning towards this light blue shade. WE NEED LIGHT IN THIS HOUSE!

linens

This would be the alternate choice if  decided to go with green anyway.

linens 2

These are the sheets I’m leaning towards, too. Every southern girl needs monogrammed sheets. That’s exactly what I would have done with these, too.

sheets

If you love Pottery Barn like I do, you can design your own bed linen combinations here.

Hopefully, I will have the energy to complete this idea bedroom makeover post soon.

P.S. It’s Thursday! We’re almost to the weekend!

I cannot tell you how excited I am about our wedding coming up!

WE ARE 48 DAYS AWAY!

All of my planning that I have done since November is finally starting to come together.
So...I figured I would give a sneak peek into what's ahead.

The photos below are a few clues as to what to expect...

The focus from the above photo is the table runner.

Okay...so that's all you get for now.
Maybe I'll be tempted to reveal a few more details as it gets closer to the date.

Who knows?
I might not be able to wait another day to reveal a detail.
