A Must See

At school today, the Kindergarteners and the First Grade had the opportunity to go to St. Maurice's Catholic Church in our town to watch The Three Billy Goats Gruff that was performed by the Birmingham Children's Theatre.

It was certainly worth our time, and I have to say it is definitely enjoyable for children and adults. If you're looking for an excellent family activity, this just might be the thing to be interested in.

There were only four actors and actresses, and the scenery was very limited, BUT the performance was amazing. There was not one time the children weren't paying attention.

The best thing about the whole deal was how interactive they were with the children. Who knew The Three Billy Goats Gruff could be funny????

It was hilarious and very entertaining.

If you're interested in seeing the Birmingham Children's Theatre, you can visit their website here.

A brochure for the various performances coming up can be found here.

The price per ticket is very cheap. Children are $8, and adults are $10.

It also gives you the recommended grade levels for each performance.

Hope you check it out and enjoy!

Hare Today, Goon Tomorrow

As most of you know, I am doing my student teaching to complete my degree and become an elementary school teacher. Each day we read a story to the children, so the students can:

A) Hear fluent reading being modeled
B) Cool down from P.E. class
C) Just enjoy a good book
Today when I went to pick a story, I chose this book:

Yes...there is a song that is the same thing. Basically, they just turned it into a book. It's too cute though. If you want the song, follow this link.

So....

is....

But then he finds some field mice and is bopping them on the head!

Unfortunately for him, this does NOT make the Good Fairy Happy.

So...she gives him three chances. If he doesn't change his attitude, she's going to turn him into a GOON!

That doesn't stop Little Rabbit Foo Foo though...

Chance One: Wriggly Worms

Chance Two: Tigers

Chance Three: The Goblins

That was all it took to tick the Good Fairy off.
Pay close attention to the hilarious illustration in the next photo.
Doesn't it just crack you up that the Good Fairy is hangin from the tree by the umbrella just getting ready to smack him on the head.

Unfortunate things happen for Little Rabbit Foo Foo...

You might be surprised to know there is a moral to the story...

I hope you thought this was as funny as I did! It's a great story for kids. Mine at school absolutely adored it today. They find it funny, too!

I hope you enjoyed this post, especially if you are the teacher type. I'm hoping to start tapping into my teaching knowledge and ideas for future blog posts.

Made My Day

I've been anxiously waiting since Sunday to see the photos that resulted from our engagement photo session that was all thanks to our wonderful and talented photographer, Julie Cottrell.

Let me tell you folks, she is great!

Friendly, talented, creative....just what you need in a photographer.

We actually did a photo session on Saturday, too, that consisted of everything bridal. That was so much fun, but I can't post those pictures until after the wedding. I don't need some loving, and caring nosy fiance trying to figure out what my dress looks like. That would spoil the fun!

Okay...so I'll quit drawing it out. Here are my absolute favorites!

This is most certainly one of my very favorites. Then again though, the next one is, too. And the next one. Uh oh...I think I'm in trouble.

There's that smile I love out of him!

Colby and Brenna sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love. Then, comes marriage. Then comes, Brenna pushing a baby carriage shopping cart.

{Baby talk is not entering the blog just yet...lol}

On a side note, the above picture is taken at what all of the "Brewton folks" call "the boardwalk." We have a new cafe located there called the {very original} Boardwalk Cafe {hoping the link works}. It is tasty ya'll. Friday nights they have a wonderful special. The owners of the place are simply wonderful. I know them from teaching their daughter at school. Try it out some time whether you live in Brewton or live out of town.

Now...let me continue on.

Above picture is taken conveniently where I will put in my first job application to be a "real" teacher. How funny is that!

Well...I hope you enjoyed our photos. I truly recommend Julie to anyone that wants pictures for their wedding, bridal portraits, and family photos. She is amazing!

You can see more of her work on her blog, or you can go to her website.

If you want a client's opinion, email me anytime. I'd be glad to tell you some wonderful things about her.

Thanks, Julie, for all you have done so far. I can't wait for the wedding!

Make Your Own Label

I got the amazing idea to make my own labels for my wedding from two different places.

First, I knew I wanted to use bubbles for our send-off from leaving the reception. I was searching through The Knot, and this is what I stumbled upon.

Cute, huh?

Then, I realized I didn't want to have to spend all of the extra money on labels and for someone to design one for me. That's why I used Darby's tutorial.

Then, I decided I would make my own. Then, I saw that I could take her tutorial one step further. I could explain how to make those circles just the right size, so you can punch them out with a handy dandy....

Circle puncher outer?

Yep...I bought it from JoAnne's Craft Store. Okay, so it's technically not called a circle puncher outer. It's really a Fiskars X-Large Squeeze Punch.

I put my skills to work, made 3-0-0 labels, punched them all out, and made this....

Aren't they cute?

Disclaimer:
It is not perfect by any means. Do not blame me for your troubles. Please let me know if you have find any problems though, so they can be fixed immediately.

Let's Party!

First of all, I clearly did not take the above picture.

The picture above is a discovery that I made tonight that I have found to be ever so helpful.

Where's the best place to find some great party ideas?

baby shower?
Christmas party?
New Year's Eve party?
Birthday party?

This is the place for you. The choices are amazing and very chic.

It provides all of the details including suggestions for the decorations, tabletop landscape, the menu, and what to drink.

How can it get any  better?

I love the themes! It most certainly gives you options that you could use, so check it out and start planning that party of yours!

A Whole New Feel

Well, it certainly look as if I'm only good for one blog post a week here lately. I wish to do more, but it just doesn't fit into the schedule along with student teaching and wedding planning.

For the past year, I've been wanting to re-upholster my dining room chairs that I bought to match the table, buffet, and china cabinet I bought from my grandmother. When I bought the chairs, I H-A-T-E-D the fabric someone had put on the seat cushions. You can see why below...

I never liked this fabric, so I was constantly looking for fabric. I bought a fabric {which I hate now}. Thus the reason I never re-upholstered it. I finally found the perfect fabric. I was at my favorite store in Brewton, The Hourglass, at their warehouse sale. They {unfortunately} closed down and were getting rid of the remaining items they had for little to nothing.

This is the fabric I found...

I knew it was not a cheap fabric when I saw it. It was a remnant that Becki had left over from a job she did for a client, and I snatched it up for $3 {I believe}. It was 2 yards of this fabric.

Today, I {finally} re-upholstered my dining room chairs, and I'm in love all over again. They feel so wonderful to the touch and to your behind.

Below is a photo of the after:

While I was at the Hourglass, I also picked up some fabric samples that she had for sale. I think I paid 33 cents for each one. The company discontinued the fabrics and told ehr to just throw the samples away. She decided they were too good to just throw away and that someone might could use them.

Apparently, that someone was me. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of these, but I'm sure I can come up with something creative.

I suppose we'll just see what comes out of all of this fabric. I can't wait to see myself!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Snow Day Part II

Colby and I ventured out of the house today to explore a little bit. I figured I would share some of my photos from the day so far. I have to say that we're getting a good bit of snow in town, but our yard is so wet that it isn't sticking as well as it is in the country at the Langham Family Farm. I couldn't believe how thick the snow was. It was at least 3 or more inches.

Above is photo of the small, country church that I attend. At our church, we have pictures of what it looked like after many different storms and hurricanes have hit, but we have never had a picture of it in snow.

After we left the church, we moved onto the farm that Colby's parents lease. This is where all of the cows are kept during the winter. I caught some cute pictures of them too.

Here's some pictures of the other farm that Colby's parents actually own.

Then it was time for me to have a little fun of my own...

Then, I plopped myself down and made my first snow angel......
EVER!
