A Perfect Weekend

I don’t think I could have wished for a better weekend than this one. The weather was AMAZING for it to be February. It’s the kind of weather I’ve been hoping for each and every day. It gave me a taste of how wonderful spring is going to be this year.

Yesterday, I joined Colby to take a trip out to the farm to feed the cows.

I know that may not sound like fun to some of you, but to me it was just what I needed. I have been needing sunshine and wide open spaces. Being in the classroom for the most of hours during the week brings down a girl’s spirit, especially for someone who survives on sunshine and water.

Name this movie. “I’ll live off sunshine and water.”

Colby gave the cows some hay, and I took pictures of everything I could. After all, the only way you get better with the contraption is to try it out and give it a go.

 

Geez, I love this man! And, I’m really hating that we’re not going to be able to spend V-day together, but every day is wonderful with him.

We took a stroll down to this little creek, and I do believe I could have put my lawn chair out and stayed there all day. You could just hear the water moving so smoothly, and there was perfect mixture of sunlight and shade. I could definitely live this life!

When I got home, I prepared for school, watched the Grammys, and made these….

I’ll share a tutorial later. Nothing to it!

The Night Before Valentine’s Day

…is what it is! For all of you moms and dads out there or even for those of you who just appreciate a wholesome children’s book, there is a book you must go out and get for all of the little ones in your life. What I love most about this book is that it expresses the way Valentine’s Day was once like in our schools instead of what it is now with the Power Rangers Valentine’s cards that are sealed with a heart sticker.

What happened to the old Valentine’s cards that were put in envelopes and personalized by each child? So this is for all of you that agree with me on that….enjoy!

And that’s the wish I have for all of you on this night before Valentine’s day! You all are so wonderful to read my blog and read about the craziness we call life around her at the Langham household even if you don’t comment on here to let me know I’m not writing for only myself.

Parties Galore!

There has been lots of talk about parties around here these days. It looks as though lots of parties will be had here this year, as well as a few brochure parties.

I can’t wait to tell you about my niece’s upcoming birthday party! For now, I’ll tell you that the theme is a Candy Stand birthday party. How awesome is that! More details to come!

For now, I’ll share with you this….

I’m having a Tupperware party AND a Scentsy party right now. Both are brochure parties. It started off as just a Scentsy party, and now I’ve signed up for Tupperware.

Can you really beat Tupperware though? My mom still has tons of bowls from that company who have lived a long hard life. They’ve been beat on with wooden spoons, put in the dishwasher 107, 392 times, and have survived daddy’s workplace over the years. Seriously??? Gladware does not do that.

I went to my first Tupperware party Thursday night. It was a great party and very fun and interactive. It makes me think back about the times I would hear my mom and other women in my family talk about Tupperware. Why do I remember that? I think it is just an American staple. Or, is it just a Southern staple? I don’t know. I just know that I LOVE IT just as much as the next person.

This is what I scored at the party last night. Whoop! Whoop!

As for Scentsy, I adore it. My house now smells like heaven, and I don’t have to worry about what others think about the smell of my house. I have two warmers and a plug-in, so the essence of blueberry cheesecake can follow you throughout my house.

I finally broke down and realized that I couldn’t live one more day without a cutesy camera strap. I was sick and tired of looking at the ugly standard Canon camera strap. Enough is enough!

I am now the proud owner of this baby!

I just placed the order. It’s coming from Australia, so it may take a bit to get here. I’m the patient kind though. Really I am not.

It’s my two favorite colors, green and sky blue. It just doesn’t get any better.

Shopping 101: Coupon Codes

If there is one thing that many people might know about me, it would be that I love a good deal. Some might call it cheap. I call it smart. Why in the world would I pay more for something if there is a cheaper route that is just as good?!?!

One example I can give you is my latest purchase for a wedding reception next weekend. I needed a dress to wear that was nice, but could still be worn during the day time. Most of the dresses I have look more like cocktail dresses. I decided to go with the classic sheath dress.

Because of my height and my size, it is extremely hard for me to find clothes to fit in all the right places, especially dresses. Ann Taylor Loft is my go-to store for dresses, but I am not a fan of the price tag. That’s when I turn to my smart shopper knowledge.

Before I check out, I always search for online coupon codes. For those of you who don’t do this, google the store you’re shopping + coupon codes. For example, when I was looking for a coupon code here, I just entered “Ann Taylor Loft coupon codes”. Results appear. Start clicking on the different options. Sometimes the codes have expired or only apply to certain items, so you may have to try several different ones to find a winner. It’s worth it even if you just get free shipping.

As for this dress, here is how well it worked out for me:

Dress price: 79.50

Coupon code: 30% off

Final Dress Price: 55.65

Shipping: 19.95 {since I procrastinated and needed 3 day shipping}

Plus shipping tax and merchandise tax

Final Cost: $81.65

Okay…I know it doesn’t look like I saved anything, but I would have paid $107 if I didn’t have the coupon code. That is a savings of OVER 25 DOLLARS!

If you don’t shop online, you need to print out coupons from your favorite stores. I hate for my email to fill up with offers from 1000s of stores, but I do love to get coupons for the stores I shop at most often. Sometimes this is also a great way to get online codes as well.

For many of you who don’t live in our area and for those of you who do, Brewton has a new magazine that is in its third edition. It began this year, and I did not even know about it until I was contacted by one of our writers for the paper, The Brewton Standard.

Now that I think back on it, I do remember seeing something about it in the paper, but I had never actually seen a copy of it. I guess it was out of sight, out of mind.

I felt quite honored to be asked about my wedding reception and to provide some comments and photos for the new magazine. I was told they were going to do a segment on “not your typical church reception”.

For those of you who do not know, our reception was held at The Hourglass in downtown Brewton. It was once a hardware store, but then it was renovated by two wonderful people who are now dear friends, Becki and Terrance Breckenridge. When they renovated it, it became a shop that was full of items that made you wish you could take home every item there.

Due to economic times and other things, the store closed and was vacant. This became my opportunity.

From here on out, I will let you read the article for the rest of the story.

I must admit that I was pretty proud of this article. I loved every detail about our wedding. I felt like I accomplished all that I loved, did it on a small budget, and expressed who Colby and I are through our wedding. It is an event that I will carry on forever.

I also must admit that as soon as school was out on Monday I rushed to their office to pick up a copy. Of course, I went to my article first. It was quite the pleasant surprise though to see my  two best friends from high school’s wedding in there as well. To me, it is even more special now.

Kate and Spencer had their wedding on the property they live on now, and it was fabulous as well. The decor and ideas Kate had were creative, but absolutely gorgeous.

I know that many people around our town don’t know about this, but it is a terrific magazine worth reading. I hope one day that it does expand to be even bigger and better.
