My First Halloween Experience

For the first time since Colby and I have had our house, Colby has actually  been home on Halloween, which meant that I could have trick-or-treaters that weren’t family. I could actually turn my lights on!

I’m not going to lie. I was so excited when they started showing up. Of course, it pays to be a teacher because you end up knowing the majority of the kids. They were all so cute in their costumes.

Since I’m not in the mood so much to narrate the entire night, I’ll just share it in pictures.

If you’re wondering about the pumpkins, it was one of the few fall projects that I actually got accomplished. I painted our street numbers on the pumpkins.

Now, on to Thanksgiving and a week long vacation!

Trick or Treat

I had a terrific weekend minus the fact that my husband couldn’t be with me for the greater part of the weekend. However, I was kept busy with visiting friends and preparing for my little trick-or-treaters!

I always look forward to this. I was going to venture out this year and actually turn my front porch light on for random trick-or-treaters, but I backed out when Colby couldn’t be here. Too many freaks to do that when I’m by myself…

Anyhow,  I had plenty of fun with my niece and my little cousins. They are way to precious!

I had my house all decorated for it, too. I used some tips from my SIL, and I used some ideas of my own as well.

And, I also had my classroom decorated for the Halloween season. I’ve been meaning to post these for a while, but things get a little crazy sometimes.

Now it is time to give thanks for all that we have in this life that God has given us…count your blessings!

Preparing for Fall

Fall is finally here! More importantly...it's finally October, which means that we can all begin our fall decorations. I have been contemplating on how to decorate Colby's house this year to get in the spirit of the season. I've finally decided that I will be decorating with potted mums and pumpkins. Hopefully, this will spruce up the house a bit. I've been searching the internet for ideas, and I found a few pictures that I thought were great inspiration.

I've decided that I want the decorations to be a bit elegant, rather than scary. I especially didn't want the decorations to be tacky. It seems that sometimes people get a bit out of hand. Here are a few picture that I found that I seemed to be drawn to.




I liked the photo above mostly for its simplicity. I'm on a budget, so this is a great way for me to still decorate the house, add some color to the porch, and be in the spirit of the season. I was particularly drawn to the wreath on the door. It looks like it would be very easy to make if you had many small pumpkins and some black ribbon.

I also liked this photo for the mums and arrangment of pumpkins. It just demonstrates how easy it is to decorate for fall without all of the ghosts and goblins hanging from the front porch. I'm not saying I'm against all of the typical Halloween decorations. It's just not for me. You can get the tips for this idea here.

This makes me wish I had a fireplace in the house. I'll save this photo for future use!

I am all about monograms. I loved this, and I may give it a try. I just wonder how I'm going to make it look as good as this one. Hmmm...I guess I will use the directions from the Martha Stewart website to figure it out.

Last but not least, an easy way to make decorations. The simple use of a template and some cookie cutters makes it very simply to light up the outdoors when trick-or-treaters come by.
